New Year resolution & blind drunk topics combined
What is your New Year’s Resolution?
    and
Is there ever a good reason to get blinding drunk?

I haven't considered making a New Years resolution for many years, I have to admit. Most days it feels as if there are enough orders to follow without making up our own voluntarily... I know, I know, I can almost hear what certain people are saying.

"Following orders Marcus? Remind me again - just when was that?"

But, you know, putting orders into action is all about creative interpretation in the field. Ahem. It's true, I read it in a training manual somewhere.

So many of our lives – perhaps especially many of us who have found this place - are bound constantly by promises, obligations or even truly binding oaths in some cases. They rule our lives, govern our choices, and even if we know our cause is important, and even if we wouldn't change the course of our lives for a little more freedom, sometimes we have to let a little something for ourselves have a chance.

I am going to make one resolution this New Year. At some point before the end of this year, I swear I will find a way to express my admiration for her to a certain lady of my acquaintance. And if I ever work out how to do it without sounding like a complete idiot, I may not have to get blind drunk to do it. *sigh*

OOC note: Combined it with the New Year resolution one as I was running late and they merged well for him.

Do you feel that you were born with a predetermined role in society? If so, how do you feel about it?

That's quite a question. I've met many people with great destinies and I can assure you I'm not among them. Of course, predetermined doesn't necessarily have to imply greatness, but I imagine my parents' plans to have their eldest son continue in the family business aren't of much interest to anyone. It certainly wasn't that interesting to me.

Was it predetermined that I ended up doing just that, despite years away from home during the Earth-Minbari war? It would certainly be easier - I think - to believe there was a greater purpose in what followed afterwards, but if fate or whatever really wanted me to join the Rangers so badly, a simpler, less bloody message would have sufficed. Or maybe it wouldn't. I was a stubborn man. Still can be, for that matter.

And it's definitely your round this time.

    Who, me?
I'm just a man. Passing through, you might say.

People do a lot of that here, no-one expects to remember everyone's names.

Actually, it reminds me of a place I visit now and again. Babylon 5 - it's a space station. Actually it's a lot like any large, diverse community. A bit of everything, not too many questions asked and no chance to get bored. Just the way I like it.
