Week 1 topic - 19/12/03

b>Muse:</b> Marcus Cole
Fandom: Babylon 5
Word Count: 141

Do you feel that you were born with a predetermined role in society? If so, how do you feel about it?

That's quite a question. I've met many people with great destinies and I can assure you I'm not among them. Of course, predetermined doesn't necessarily have to imply greatness, but I imagine my parents' plans to have their eldest son continue in the family business aren't of much interest to anyone. It certainly wasn't that interesting to me.

Was it predetermined that I ended up doing just that, despite years away from home during the Earth-Minbari war? It would certainly be easier - I think - to believe there was a greater purpose in what followed afterwards, but if fate or whatever really wanted me to join the Rangers so badly, a simpler, less bloody message would have sufficed. Or maybe it wouldn't. I was a stubborn man. Still can be, for that matter.

And it's definitely your round this time.

OOC: For those unfamiliar with Babylon 5, Marcus joined the force known as the Rangers after his brother (a Ranger who had tried to recruit him) and all other colonists where he lived were killed by the Shadows. Apologies to those I've not replied to yet, btw, real life has been a bit wild but I'm catching up now :-)

Who, me?

I'm just a man. Passing through, you might say.

People do a lot of that here, no-one expects to remember everyone's names.

Actually, it reminds me of a place I visit now and again. Babylon 5 - it's a space station. Actually it's a lot like any large, diverse community. A bit of everything, not too many questions asked and no chance to get bored. Just the way I like it.

Marcus Cole
